Do I need a qualification to be a nanny?
No you don't need to be qualified to be a nanny. Experience is what counts. Studying always adds to your professional developement and can compliment your nanny career and give you great resourses and help you understand child development.
What if I've got no nanny experience?
If you have no experience as a nanny, you can start as a Mothers Helper and work under the supervision of the mother. You must have had some form of childcare experience and been working with children for two years. You will be on a trial, and need to show us that you are capable for job. You must be prepared to get the required documents before you can be referred for work. You could enroll in a Childcare course; this is a great way to get your nanny career of to a professional start.
What if I don't have a Police Check, Working with Children's Check or First Aid Certificate?
You must have all three documents indate to be referred for work. You can get your Police Check and Working with Children's Check forms from the Post Office. It's that easy. Revive is the best First Aid course. Keep receipts for proof of purchase. You will not be sent for an interview with a parent unless you have all three documents in date.
Can I charge what rate I like?
No the rate is as advertised on the position. You are not free to charge what you like. Do not ask the parent for more money at the interview. You must discuss with us if you feel the rate is not right and we can talk to the parent first. At Perth Nanny Care we look after our nannies and you are free to choose what job suits you and your lifestyle.
Who pays my tax and super?
The parent will be your employer and is responsible for your tax and super.You are a professional nanny and will be treated as a professional employee with all the benefits. As a Temporary Nanny or Babysitter you will be Self Employed and contracting your services to the parent. Apply for an ABN now if you wish to be sent for these bookings and organize an invoice and receipt book for yourself.
Should I get Nanny Insurance?
Yes! We recommend Nanny Insure as this will protect you should anything happen to the children in your care.
Do I get reimbursed petrol if I drive kids using my car?
Yes if you're using your own car and petrol the parent will reimburse you for the petrol used. You can also claim back on your tax at $0.55 - $0.75 per km. Rates are on the Tax office website. Please keep a log-book and record your petrol cost.
Can I decide when I meet the family?
Yes once a nanny job offer is made to you, you're under no obligation to accept and can decide then if the family matches your needs and the nanny job is right for you. You need to be sure that you can manage a position before accepting. We will support you, the first eight weeks is the time to tell us how you’re going, if there are any problems or difficulties. We value your feedback.
Do you take any money from our wages?
No we do not take any money from your wages. You're free to keep all your hard earned money as you deserve it. We are the recruitment agency finding, screening and sending you for work, the parent then becomes your employer.
